Overall Atmosphere: Natural
A Natural Atmosphere includes a diverse range of destinations with outdoor-oriented features, including both water-based (beaches, rivers, lakes, etc) and land-based (mountains, forests, deserts, etc). It also includes specific outdoor activities, ranging from water adventuring (eg, kayaking, sailing) to land adventuring (eg, hiking, biking).

Natural Interests tend to be:
(a) outdoors-oriented, and therefore more dependent on weather conditions
(b) less easily accessible and more physically demanding than other destination categories.

In some cases (eg, rafting and climbing), this includes a significantly increased degree of adventure (or danger, depending on one's viewpoint).
Featuring mainly outdoors-oriented natural attractions.

Waterfalls
Gondwana’s rainfall and many gorges provide the conditions for waterfalls, which often come in pairs. Among these are:

Apsley Falls. There is a 52 m steel stairway leading to an observation deck (with disabled access) where there are great views of the deep gorge and the falls. There are two spectacular falls.

Tia Falls. There are several spectacular falls, with two walking tracks taking in the Falls and Gorge Walk.

Wollomombi Falls has a spectacular gorge with two waterfalls which are best seen after a good fall of rain.

Dangars Gorge and Falls. This is the starting point for several walks, with good places for picnics, camping and bushwalking.
Tropical Forests
Gondwana gets more rain than most of Australia, and the result is an extensive rainforest system. The most pristine portions of of Gondwana’s system are in the backcountry. Some trails can be quite long, but camping anywhere is permitted. For those who want or need easier, the Esme Street Environmental Park offers a rainforest experience without the need to get off the beaten track.
Hiking and Trekking
Tamborine Mountain is well known for walking tracks winding through rainforest regions and occasionally past cliffs or waterfalls. The best-known are the Curtis Falls rainforest track and the Knoll. Another option is the Palm Grove walk -- a 30-minute downhill trek to a massive fallen fig tree (blown down by storms in 2013) through a vast skyline filled with 30-metre (98 ft) tall palms. A third is the Gallery Walk, one of the mountain's most popular trails.

Oxley Wild Rivers NP provides public access to Budds Mare and Riverside camping areas. Budds Mare is set in bushland and a short walk takes you to the lookout which has spectacular views over Gondwana dry rainforest in the Apsley River Gorge. There is an eight kilometer walk from here down the ridge to the Riverside Visitor Area on the Apsley River, but it is a challenging trail for the experienced trekker only.
