Ha Long Bay

Ha Long Bay is located off of the eastern coast of northern Vietnam, 105 miles (170 km) east of Hanoi.

It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site most famous for its scenic ocean karst topography, which plunges directly into blue-grean ocean waters.

The Ha Long Bay archipelago is made up of over a thousand islands, both settled and uninhabited. The islands vary greatly in size, shape, and character. .

The islands can be accessed for daytime and overnight trips from various ports, including Haiphang & Halong City.

Overall Atmosphere: Combination
Combination Atmosphere destinations combine elements of both cultural and natural destinations, where this combination is itself essential to the travel experience. Common examples are Archaeological Sites (where culture is usually experienced outdoors), Scenic Local Markets (where indigenous cultures interact outdoors), Hotsprings and Vineyard Areas (where nature provides the raw materials but humans create the surroundings), and Unique Cultural Landscapes (where humans and nature interact in innovative ways, as in the elaborate rice terracing systems of Asia).

Combination Interests typically fall somewhere in the middle of the three types of primary interests in terms of
(a) how climate-dependent they are
(b) how accessible and physically demanding they are.
Featuring both cultural and natural attractions.

Unusual Local Feature

Island hopping

For those who want to explore the region further, it is possible to make arrangements for “island hopping” between islands that are less developed. Among these:

Ban Sen. This is a thickly forested, almost uninhabited island reachable by ferries to Quan Lan from Cai Rong.

Cat Ba. This is a national park that is home of an endangered cat: Ba langur. It has numerous caves and the most popular island destination in Ha Long Bay.

Quan Lạn. This is a historically significant outlying island with beautiful beaches and some travel infrastructure.

Van Don. This a large island that is well inhabited, little visited by travelers. It is connected by road to the mainland near Cửa Ông.

Dau Be Island. This is a very popular swimming and diving spot because of its rich coral and deep grottoes with three inland lakes.

Bo Hon Island. This is home to the Virgin Cave (Hang Trinh Nu), one of the most famous caves in Ha Long Bay.
Boat Tours
Boat tours in Ha long Bay take two forms:

1. Day cruises are created for travelers who just have enough time to soak up the atmosphere and take short glimpse over the must-sees of Halong Bay. Though they are quite short, they include visits to tourist attractions and well-cooked seafood dinner, swimming in the emerald water, kayaking to lagoons of the bay.

2. Overnight cruises are designed for travelers who have more time. A general One night Halong Bay Cruise includes activities such as visits to cave, Islands, Kayaking, funny team building games on beaches, sunset watching with a cocktail party, and night activities on board while a two night cruise adds an extra day of visits the further, untouched parts of the bay.
Unusual Local Feature

Limestone Karsts Meet Tropical Ocean

Ha Long Bay, in the Gulf of Tonkin, includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited. The area is centered on limestone karst landforms emerging out of the ocean, with spectacular pillars, as well as arches and caves.
