Overall Atmosphere: Combination
Combination Atmosphere destinations combine elements of both cultural and natural destinations, where this combination is itself essential to the travel experience. Common examples are Archaeological Sites (where culture is usually experienced outdoors), Scenic Local Markets (where indigenous cultures interact outdoors), Hotsprings and Vineyard Areas (where nature provides the raw materials but humans create the surroundings), and Unique Cultural Landscapes (where humans and nature interact in innovative ways, as in the elaborate rice terracing systems of Asia).

Combination Interests typically fall somewhere in the middle of the three types of primary interests in terms of
(a) how climate-dependent they are
(b) how accessible and physically demanding they are.
Featuring both cultural and natural attractions.

Cultural
Historic Landmarks
There are a number of historically important and visually beautiful buildings in Stone Town, including The House of Wonders and The Arab Fort. The market in Stone Town is one of the largest, most vibrant open-air markets anywhere. Here, you can find several varieties of bananas, "elephant garlic" unique to the island, the largest avocados you'll probably ever see, and more. Even if you have no intentions of purchasing food, the spectacle alone is worth a visit.

Slave Market. The site of the old Slave Market allows for a history lesson in the macabre. Visitors go into the holding chambers to see how this wretched piece of history played itself out in small dark dungeon-type cells. The museum consists of the slave chambers, a monument, and an Anglican Church built on the site of the tree that served as whipping post. The property was purchased by Dr David Livingstone (one of the biggest proponents of the abolishment of slavery) who wanted to turn the grounds into a haven after the atrocities committed there by the Oman Arab and British slave traders.

Spice Tours

Zanzibar Island was an important stop in the Spice Trade centuries ago. Today, it is one of the few places in the world where saffron is produced, and many other Middle Eastern and Asian spices as well (cardamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, etc.). Visitors can take spice tours around the island, showing how various spices grow, letting you sample some of the exotic fruit grown on the island, and allowing you to tour the beautiful plantations.
Natural
Snorkeling
Menai Bay Conservation Area in the southwest side region holds pristine and colorful coral reef systems with abundant sea life. Take a morning trip out to snorkel or dive in a traditional dhow.
